The Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) is published annually by Transparency International. It ranks 180 countries and territories by their perceived levels of public sector corruption on a scale of 0 (highly corrupt) to 100 (very clean).
The index draws on 13 data sources from 12 independent institutions, including the World Bank, World Economic Forum, and private risk assessors. It is the most widely used indicator of corruption worldwide.
In 2025, Denmark ranks highest with a score of 89, while Somalia and South Sudan share the lowest score at 9. The global average remains at 43, unchanged for over a decade — a sign that most countries are making little to no progress in tackling corruption.
